Writers Workshop Book Lists of Units and Comprehension Strategies

Attached are Writers Workshop Book Lists that I created labeled by grade level.  Each list is differentiate by Lucy Calkins Units of Study as well as Comprehension Skills and is useful for anyone needing to teach a specific type of literacy lesson.

Great Resources

Thank you Ms. Paolone for sharing your hard work with all of us. As a colleague of yours, I often struggle to share the appreciation I have for the efforts you put forth in our local learning community. I'm delighted to see that you have decided to share your efforts with a wider audience and look forward to any other insights you might choose to share with us. I can't wait for Cait to get a look at your lists.

Cheers

What a Gift!

Thank you for posting this list of mentor texts referenced by grade level and lesson.  Our VES Professional Study Group is reading Units of Study and spoke of needing to compile mentor text lists by grade level yesterday.  Thanks also to your colleague Robert.  He posted to LoriR's comment and it led us to yours.  We are all new to blogging so we are amazed at this experience-  you think of something and "poof" there it is.  If this is blogging, I am in for good!

Thanks again ,

Laura from VES

Efficiency

Hello!

As a principal, I can't tell you how grateful I am for this online forum, as it is testament that moving forward in one's curriculum does not equate to re-creating the wheel.  This online collaboration and sharing of resources with the underlying philosophy of "why spend hours doing work that has already been done" truly embodies the concept of a Professional Learning Community...except globally!

Plus, there is a true meshing of theory and practice in what you are writing, rather than looking at pure theory (which usually discourages teachers from trying something new; the fear that the current theory has not been adequately used in a live classroom).

Now, I'd like to start a conversation thread, if that's acceptable.  How does everybody feel about the use of literature circles as a means of addressing guided reading with older students?

Have a great day!

Great Thread Idea

Hi Thomas,

Thank you for the support, your appreciation for what we are doing here is nice to read. I hope you continue to participate as we love to hear the administrator perspective too.

I like your idea for a thread and am going to start it in the forum section here:
