NOTE TO PARENTS:

I'm sorry about the behavior books.  I didn't have time to check all the homework.  I will do that on the weekend and send email regarding the homework.

Y 5/6 ENGLISH:  Read for 1 hour

It doesn't have to be 1 continuous hour.  It could be 20 minutes, 20 minutes, 20 minutes, for example.  And the children are allowed to read ANY English book (their choice or your choice, it doesn't matter).  AND, they should record their reading into their READING LOGS!!!  If your child does not have a READING LOG, he/she should ask me for another.

DEAR PARENTS:

So, sorry about Tues & Wed homework.  I had after-school activities and/or meetings getting ready for the Christmas Fair and worked until 8pm each night preparing.  Had no time to do the homework blog.

Tuesday homework was:
Y5 ENGLISH: 20 pictographs, Y5 MATH: wkbk p.18-84 and study "math English" for Quiz tomorrow (I didn't write this on the board, but I told the students).
Y6 ENGLISH: 10 pictographs, Y6 MATH:  make sure wkbk is up-to-date, and study "math English" for QUiZ, Y6 SCI:  Study for Test

Y 5/6:  ENGLISH:  None

NO ENGLISH HOMEWORK because there was a lot of MATH homework.

Y 5/6: MATH:  Worksheet

The worksheet contains 54 division-fact problems, and 8 Lowest-Common-Multiple problems.

Some students know their math facts very well, and it was completed very quickly in class.  So, it is possible that your child says, "I did it at school!"

Y 5/6: S.O.S.E. (Studies Of Society and Environment)

Do one current event (from the NEWS).

Answer the following questions:

1.  Where did I get the news?  (from CNN?  from BBC-World?)

2.  What is the date of the news?

Y5 ENGLISH:  Rewrite Biography:  Provide MORE information [Total: 500 words]

NOTICE to PARENTS:

  500 words is a lot of words, but I am confident that the students can do it.  If you disagree, please write me a nice note.

WRITING PROCESS:

  Writing is a process, which takes time.  I do NOT expect the students to get it right the first time.  Here is the writing process that we use:

(1)  Pre-writing:  (Get ideas)

(2)  Write a rough draft

(3)  Revise & Add More Information

(4)  Edit (Check spelling and grammar)

(5)  Publish (Read to the class or publish in a newsletter, for example)

Y5 English Homework:  Rewrite Biography on "My Mother" [500 Words]

Students should rewrite their biographies in story form, answering the following questions:

1.  What is my mother's name?

2.  Where was my mother born and When?

3.  Where are all the places that my mother has lived?

4.  What did my mom do with her life (major events)? [This should include BIG things, like which university did she graduate from?  Did she win anything in her life (like a contest, a trophy, an award, etc)?  Did she meet anyone famous?]

5.  What is special about my mother?
